Last year, whilst climbing the Aletch glacier in the Swiss Alps, Tim escaped with his life thanks to a quick decision. During the ascent he stopped for a break and got lost from the main group. He made up a path

Life Saving
Carrying a 40Lb rucksack on his back, Tim made a decision which probably saved his life - to return down the mountain face. One
false move where he was standing meant certain death on a glacier 400ft below.
While this party were in Switzerland they met members of the Japanese, French and German expeditions which were about to attempt a climb on the Eiger "Killer Peak".
Preliminary meetings are held by the club on a Tuesday evening ten days before going away for a weekend.
Whilst the emphasis in any mountaineering club must necessarily be on the rock climbing side, everybody with any interest in the mountains is always welcome at the clubs meetings which are held at the Station Hotel, Knebworth.

material, they also manage trips to Switzerland and Austria where the European contours enable the members to enjoy the pleasures of Alpine climbing.
Members of the club come from all walks of life - engineers, printers, teachers and directors' sons. It is not a sport which is the prerogative of the upper class set, which many people believe.
The cost of taking up the sport of climbing can be anything between £4 & £30, depending on the equipment budget.
The club has a minimum entry age of 18, and encouragement and help is given to beginners to broaden their experience by climbing with experienced leaders, although the club does not offer tuition as such.
The majority of the club's experienced climbers come from Brookmans Park, Hatfield, WGC, Stevenage, Knebworth & Letchworth. The secretary is Tim Farnell, of 'Potteralls' North Mymms, Hatfield, who works for his fathers civil engineering company which exports components all over the world.
He is a hardened enthusiast, and besides being a member of the North Herts club is connected with the Swiss Alpine Club. He has climbed peaks across the continent as well as in the British Isles.
Tim was introduced to climbing in 1955 when he was a member of the scout movement. But his parents have always taken a keen interest in walking and mountaineering.
