really within the Antarctic Treaty to remove them as
ornaments. I of course don"t have any, M'Lud. There is a hut there with electricity,
from a generator, an Aga stove and its very own Tescos. Needless to say, the latter is a
food store. Well it nearly all finished last Monday but one plane ran into another. Only a
small shunt but the AA were unavailable and there was a bit of concern. One replacement
part from the US, one from Canada and it all ended happy ever after. I got back last
night.
Rothera: The nightmare continues
The last planes leave tomorrow so I am trying to get this typed and sent out with them. I
can get other letters sent out by boat towards the end of March but who knows when they
will arrive with you. (See para 1) Sorry about any spilling or grammatical errors
errors.
A big, big thank you to every one whom wrote. It really is so good to get mail when you're
in the field. It's really appreciated and I will try to write back to everyone.
For those of you that haven't got round to writing: -
My name is Nick / Alfie Conn ---- you choose which
My address is at the top of the letter
My birthday is 25 October
Christmas is on 25 December
The last boat out of here is on 25 March ---- Easy, Huh
The next instalment will wing its way to you in mid November. Those of you with E-Mail are
in for a special treat however, but my lips are sealed at the moment.
Winter is approaching, its snowing outside and I can't wait until the boat leaves and 21
of us start the serious playtime the immensely serious and exacting work schedule. I'll be
taking the base personnel out on winter trips for a couple of months and if we get sea ice
in the latter half of the season it will be brilliant. I'm going to sign off now after
giving you some serious info.
