eryone's amusement. Eventually, at 3am we stumbled up the road and into bushes, back to the hut.

The fact that Saturday morning happened was major achievement, climbing as well was a miracle. Several of us headed for the mountain at varying times. Phil and I chose Obsession a three pitch 370ft VS, ambitious given our condition, but once on the rock I felt fine. The climbing was brilliant, saving the hardest for the top. The weather held out just till we reached the top, once there big rain lashed down making the descent route a scarier proposition than the actual climb. So we roped up again. On the last section Phil stepped on a big boulder which gave way and crashed down the side of the misty gully like a herd of elephants. Fortunately, I don't think there was anyone down there so no one was squashed.

The others had been on Cyfrwy Arete a 470ft VDiff and despite the rain and Neil's dramatic ground fall everyone had a good day climbing (except Neil who had a dramatic ground fall).

That night in the pub we were able to make the proper acquaintance of Neil's friend: Chris,  the self styled singing machine whose seemingly endless repertoire of  oral filth kept most of us amused for hours.

Sunday saw an en-masse trip to Bird Shit Crag. A roadside rockface of dubious quality but actually more fun than it first looked. Gary and Dave, and Bill and I did the Diagonal, a surprisingly diagonal severe which was actually quite

severe. The others were at the far end of the crag doing on sight ground up ascents of some of the major VDiff's. The weather made a pretty good account of itself (no one got wet) and to round the day off I managed to 'rescue' some pretty new looking gear.

At about 4pm we all said goodbye and then headed straight for the same café at the Alternative Energy Centre, a herbal hippie joint Gary was keen to check out.  Twenty minutes later, armed with fruit drinks and various wheaty snacks we were all sat in the otherwise deserted café - a truly new age club!  With that the weekend was over and everyone headed home to prepare for the next one.
