April 05-09 Easter in Ireland, at the Mount Brandon Hostel, located at the foot of Brandon Mountain (3127') along the Dingle Way in the village of Cloghane, Castle Gregory, Co. July 20-22 Lake District Bob Graham HMC Relay, ~70 miles in under 24 hours.  In July 2006 our illustrious Chairman, Geoff D, completed the BG round in 23 hours and 24 mins.  This year we are going to do a club relay and of course beat Geoff's time!  Camping will be at the Braithwaite campsite.  If any one is interested in taking part or supporting on the weekend, come and talk to Dave Hall in the pub on a Tuesday night at the Sun Inn. May 26-29 Late May Bank holiday camping meet at Great Langdale National Trust Campsite  OS Grid Ref: NY286059.  Situated at the Head of Great Langdale Valley.  Provides an excellent base for fell walking, rock climbing (Gimmer Crag & Raven Crag) and mountain biking. Overlooked by the Langdale Pikes and with views towards Crinkle Crags and Bowfell, this site is a spectacular location for walking (and visiting the legendry Old Dungeon Gill pub). - a wet & windy weekend, with hail & bits of sun.  16 attended, some drinking Old Peculiar in the Dungeon Gill.  Geoff Deans practiced for the Welsh 14 3000's on June 3rd, and the Lakes Bob Graham round on July 15th.  Pete Durkin
May 28-29 Alex Pender and Pete Ambrose, are taking part in a sponsored cycle ride in the Chilterns organised by Wallingford Round Table. It is 98 miles over 2 days (28th and 29th May 2006) to raise money for local charities.  Accommodation details tbc.  See link for further details

July 01-10 July 2006 trip to Benasque valley, Central Spanish Pyrenees.  The Pyrenees offer less high alpine mountaineering but lots of opportunities for walking, scrambling and climbing, with many peaks (eg Aneto) around the 3000m height. The highest generally require a short snow or glacier crossing, but many 3000m summits involve no serious snow in the main summer season.   If you are interested, contact Geoff.  He can show you maps, guides etc, and answer questions.  Geoff Sharpe

Geoff Deans completed the Bob Graham round in 23 hrs 28 mins, starting Friday 14th July at 6.30 pm & finishing Saturday 15th at 5.58pm.  The round included 42 peaks, 28,500ft of ascent (& descent) & covered 74 miles.  Geoff was assisted by Dave Hall, who completed the round in 1985 (he was no. 375) -  see www.bobgrahamround.co.uk for more details  -  Phew, The TMR (Tour de Monte Rosa) in 1 day - Well done Geoff. Phil & Alex will be biking from St Bees, Cumbria  on the west coast to Robin Hoods Bay, North Yorkshire on the east coast.  A route of 210 miles with a suitable mix of off road and quiet lanes, the plan is to complete the ride in 6 days.   The route will pass through 3 National Parks - Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and the North York Moors.  We will be staying in a mix of Youth Hostels, B&Bs, and bunkhouses with the over night luggage being transported each day. Officially Scotland, Fort William, Camping, but everyone went to Pembroke, St Wales, climbing with Pete Durkin & Adrian Jones. - The weekend started with rain on Friday night but Saturday turned out to be dry but cloudy. Much climbing was had by many and some walking along the coast by others. Good weather continued for the rest of the bank holiday weekend. Adrian Jone's favourite route was called "Riders on the storm" and involved traversing for 30 feet about 2 feet above the sea then going upwards - wild! Pete Durkin

Turn left into a field before Levant House, through the first field into the next field, past the toilet block on your right and camp at bottom of field. - A convivial meet, with about 20 people attended (with 7 members in the tourist campsite near St Just). Grindelwald in the Bernese oberland.  Camping at Eigernordwand.ch below the north face of the Eiger at Grund Gridelwald, 1km from the main town.  Activities include Alpine mountaineering  [Eiger, Monch (4090m), Jung Frau (4200m), Briethorn, Schilthorn], walking, mountain-biking, sauna, swimming, etc.  Drive or Easyjet & train to Interlaken & Grindelwald.  Maps and further info at www.grindelwald.com/index-uk.php - Showers & lotsa sun. Good campsite. Eventful week.  Phil & Andre were helicoptered off the Nassihorn after a rock fall on the east side of the Nassijoch caught Phil's leg & ripped open the tendons on his left knee. Phil's leg was operated on at Interlaken hospital before being flown back to UK. Chris & Gary fell in crevasses.  Robin, Chris & Eddie returned from the Oberaarhorn hut after suffering altitude sickness.   Geoff, Caroline & Linda stayed at two huts & descended via the Jungfrau train after an 8hr slog across glaciers.  Gary & Charles successfully climbed the Finsteraarhorn (4273m) & Monch (4107m), eventually descending via the Jungfrau railway.  Gary got two splinters in his bum at a hut, one of which Charles removed.  Linda failed to remove the second one but it was removed by a doctor in Grindelwald.  Steve left early & Albert messed up his knee & legs after descending 9000ft in two days of valley walks.  There was also a helicopter rescue on the Eiger early one morning, watched from the campsite.    Gary Bebb

Small villages are dotted about the area with the traditional pubs, inns & fine ales.  Rosedale Abbey is a small village right at the centre of the moors, which offers 3 pubs and is an ideal base from which to explore the moors, for walking and mountain biking. Accommodation cost approx £80 per person for the week.  Assuming it snows there's plenty of scope for winter mountaineering. In previous years we've stayed Aviemore, 30 miles North East, and have walked, climbed, skied, spent nights out in the hills in tents, snowholes and bothies. April 18–21 And an alternative there is a rebel group who fancy a bit of sun, sand, surf, walking and superb rock climbing in Cornwall. Pete has booked a campsite in Bottallack, just north of St. Just which is close to the main climbing areas, with a bar on site with real ale at £1.50 per pint. Camping costs £3.25 per night. May 3-5 Spring Bank Holiday, Pembroke, Camping at the Windmill Hill Caravan Park, Pembroke, SA7 15BT. There are some superb cliffs for climbing for all levels of climbers. It is also an outstandingly beautiful area for walking. The campsite charges £2.50 per night which includes free hot showers etc. It's less than a km into Pembroke itself for the pubs and the main climbing area is just down the road.  - Wet and windy then scorchio. Cost is £85 per person per week.  An interesting meet with only one twisted knee and mild frostbite.  Skiing was good.   Temperatures fell to -13c on Monday & Tuesday night at the caravan site & the taps froze.  Hot in the Caravans.  Gary B, Geoff D, Pete D, Adrian J & Matthew camped in the Lairig Ghru Monday & Tuesday.  New Year was seen in dancing & drinking at Glenmore Lodge, where Dave O'Gorman & Anita camped in the snow.
