Snowdon Mountain Railway requires a terminus at the summit if it is to continue to operate, but the size of the design of the building will depend on the facilities provided for both train passengers and walkers.
They are proposing two options:
1. Provides toilets, refreshments and seating under cover
2. Is smaller, providing toilets and an outside refreshment area for the public.
They are also proposing building an additional building at the Clogwyn station (mile from summit) for shelter and refreshments.
Please take the time to write (mention that you are a member of the HMC / use Snowdonia Centre regularly). I think it will be far more effective (and representative) to do this, than my sending one letter on behalf of you all.
In writing please try and answer the following questions which appear on the questionnaire.
- Have you been to the summit building (on train or on foot)
- Do you think the present summit building should be replaced.
- If it is replaced do you consider the following facilities essential?
Shelter inside building
Public toilets
Refreshment
Other
4. Of the two options which would you prefer
5. Would you favour a refreshment and shelter building at Clogwyn
6. Any other comment
The address to send your letters is Snowdonia National Park Authority, Penrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd, LL48 6LF
The questionnaire leaflet can be obtained at Pen-Y-Pass or the actual Summit of Snowdon if you prefer to use the real McCoy.

Having decided that spending the Bank Holiday Weekend with five or six single white males was not her idea of a "family meet", pink coat Sue Hirst belatedly booked the Hirst and Goodey families into a campsite near Church Stretton, adjoining the Wayside Inn. The helpful landlord, Mr. Johnson, warned that there were no showers but failed to reveal that the bogs were only open from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and then again from 6.30 p.m. to 11 p.m., so much of the time was spent with legs firmly crossed!
The Hirsts arrived first and were unable to locate the owner, so the tent was pitched on a reasonably flat piece of the first field. However, within half an hour, the delightful Mr. Johnson appeared and informed them that they would have to move to the top field as he was expecting five caravans on the lower field. With the help of other campers, the tent was duly removed - and no caravans were seen the whole weekend!
The Goodeys arrived the next day and despite the lack of facilities Doreen and Sue did manage to uncross their legs for certain activities, and walking boots were donned for a bumble up to Long Mynd looking across to Wenlock Edge, with Keith and Dave carrying all the gear as only one rucksack
